TECHNOLOGY services giant CSC Australia will hire an addition 120 development staff at its South Australian software centre in Adelaide as the company chases defence contracts and resources industry support work.

The company also has its eyes on continued expansion in the state government outsourcing market. Once the domain of competitor EDS which ran a whole-of-government outsourcing deal in South Australia, CSC has made deep inroads into the state public sector.

Against a backdrop of increasing work in defence and government, CSC has invested $12 million in a purpose-built software development and support facility at Technology Park at Mawson Lakes in suburban Adelaide.

“CSC's investment in Mawson Lakes reflects our longstanding commitment to the local economy,” CSC president and chief executive Nick Wilkinson said at the opening of the centre.

“We have a 30-year history in South Australia and aim to be an IT employer of choice in the region.”

CSC has fostered a core competency in supporting the defence industry since 1970, working both for the Defence department and providing services to defence contractors.

The company has a relationship with the Federal government's Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), which has facilities nearby at Salisbury.
